Chicago Bulls Acquire DeMar DeRozan from San Antonio Spurs
Major Deal Involves Three-Year, $85 Million Contract
Sign-and-Trade Agreement Includes Additional Players and Draft Picks
Chicago, IL - August 11, 2021 - The Chicago Bulls have made a significant move by acquiring DeMar DeRozan from the San Antonio Spurs in a sign-and-trade agreement. The deal reportedly involves a three-year, $85 million contract for DeRozan, who has been one of the most sought-after players in the trade market this off-season.
Sources close to the situation have indicated that the Bulls will also acquire forward Thaddeus Young and forward Al-Farouq Aminu from the Spurs. Additionally, the Bulls will receive a 2025 first-round draft pick and the rights to a 2022 second-round pick. In return, the Spurs will reportedly receive forward Lauri Markkanen and a 2025 second-round pick.
The Bulls were reportedly motivated to make this trade after the San Antonio Spurs traded guard Alex Caruso to the Oklahoma City Thunder on Sunday night. Caruso had been a key part of the Bulls' rotation last season, and his departure reportedly left a significant void in their backcourt.
DeRozan is a six-time NBA All-Star who averaged 21.6 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 6.9 assists per game last season with the Spurs. He is expected to play a significant role for the Bulls in the upcoming season, alongside Zach LaVine and Nikola Vucevic.
